There are 33 crore goddesses who live here

Whenever there is a discussion about the city of temples, Raghunath Temple in Jammu is a matter of reference. The Raghunath temple is located in the middle of the city of Jammu. This temple is not only a religion of Hinduism but also the identity of Jammu. This temple is a typical example of its artistry. Raghunath Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. This temple is one of the main and unique temples of northern India.


The Raghunath Temple was constructed in 1857 by Maharaja Ranvir Singh and his father Maharaja Gulab Singh. There are 7 historical religious places in this temple. The inner parts of the temple have gold. The idol of several gods and goddesses is engaged in the temple. This temple has 33 crore god and  goddess of Hinduism and Lingam of the Gods. The devotees are quite surprised here.

The historic Raghunath temple has also been attacked in November 2002. After which this temple was closed for some time. In the year 2013, 11 years after the attack, once again the entrance of the temple was opened to the devotee. This temple was built by King Gulab Singh in 1835. But the temple was completed in the time of King Ranvir Singh. Within the temple, there are three layers of gold on the walls.

This temple is seen out of the five Kalash which are spread out in length. There are huge statues of Ram Sita Laxman in the womb house. The characteristic of this temple is that in it many statues of many characters of Ramayana Mahabharata period are in different rooms. There are huge rooms in the courtyards, which have these idols.

Apart from this, all four Dham can be seen in one chamber. There are arrangements in between that a Dham-Rameswaram, Dwarkadhishh, Badrinath, Kedarnath can be seen from all around. In a room in the middle can be seen  Lord Satyanarayan. The sun-engraved in the center of this room is very beautiful. Twelve idols of months are visible on the walls all around, for the month of Chaitra, Vaishakh etc., the idol of the main deity of that month.

The Raghunath temple is a very interesting anecdote associated with how it was built. It is said that Maharaj Gulab Singh received the inspiration for the construction of this temple by Mr. Ram Das Vairagi. It is said that Ramdas Vairagi had predicted the formation temple to Gulab Singh which later came true. Ramdas Vairagi was a devotee of Lord Rama. They came to Jammu from Ayodhya to promote the ideals of Lord Rama.Ramdas had earlier constructed Ram Mandir in Jammu region in Sui Sindhi.

The festival of Ram Navami is celebrated in this temple. Ramnavmi festival was declared a government holiday at the time of King Maharajas. And the jhankis of Lord Rama used to accompany the police and security forces.
